Leírás: Documentation of the celebration of the laying of the foundation stone for a "Taunus recreation home" in Oberjosbach, Hesse, on May 21, 1914, showing the celebrating crowd consisting of festively dressed adults and children. Various associations are represented with flags, such as the Kreisverein Berlin of the Verband deutscher Handlungsgehilfen. Some children are waving German flags. The foundation stone is laid in the presence of Mayor Peter Haupt and members of the municipal council. Since the 1910s, Oskar Barnack, the inventor of the Leica, has captured events around Wetzlar on film with his self-constructed film camera. He documented flood disasters, city festivals, medical experiments, sporting events and the company where he was employed as chief designer: the Optical Works Ernst Leitz in Wetzlar. His films form the basis of a film archive in which local history has the same place as the effects of great historical events.
